5 items you must take with you on any holiday

By Harriet Appleton

A summer holiday can be one of the most exciting times of the year and after the rain and cold winters notorious to the UK many holidaymakers will often make early bookings for their forthcoming foreign holidays choosing to relax and unwind in warmer climates. However, regardless of whether a warm beach holiday or an exhilarating ski holiday has been booked there are some key holiday essentials which you should never travel without.

Sun cream with SPF. Sun cream may sound like a small, standard item but without it a holiday in the sun can prove extremely painful in the short term with long term medical implications. Sun cream is the essential barrier between harmful UVA rays and skin health. Aside from the rising levels of skin cancer recorded across the world from people who have exposed their skin to the sun without protection, should you venture on a hot summer holiday without this essential you may well end up very burnt with a peeling tan.

Digital camera. One of the most popular places for people to take their cameras is on holiday and forgetting to pack it is something that many have regretted. Now, with the welcome introduction of social networking websites more people like to share their holiday photos with friends and family so those memorable holiday moments are more important than ever to capture.

Passport and tickets. You won't even get on the plane without your passport so this needs to be one of your top priorities. Unfortunately, it is the item that some travellers find they have forgotten when they reach the airport. The only other item as important is your plane tickets. You may not pack these in your suitcase but they should at least go in your hand luggage. Don't risk losing them by casually slipping them into your pocket.

Holiday insurance. Unfortunately, holiday insurance is often another essential item which can often be overlooked, however, if one of the party travelling become ill or luggage goes missing or even if the holiday is cancelled through no fault of your own it is holiday insurance (or lack of it) that can spell the loss of your money and holiday should you forget it. Don't just buy insurance; bring the documents with you in case of emergency.
