By Keith Rogers

The Kindle reader is a digital media reader that is designed and exclusively marketed by Amazon. Kindle users can download and read eBooks, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. Kindle owners can essentially store his or her entire collection of books in a device the size of a traditional paperback. Book lovers and avid readers nowadays are getting fascinated with the capabilities of this seemingly flimsy device.

With all the great features you have heard about this device, the appeal that it has on avid readers is actually not that surprising. Features such as the enhanced E-Ink Pearl Display Technology, the bigger internal memory that can hold up to 3,500 eBooks, and the impressively slimmer design, are all enticing. But are you really familiar with the device and know it inside and out? Most Kindle owners don't. The latest Kindle has a lot of hidden features and cool shortcuts that actually makes it more than just a simple eBook reader.

Take the menu button, for instance, did you know that the menu button can display the time situated on the top-center of the screen? If you press the menu button on the home screen, you can view the free memory on your electronic book reader as well, which is expressed in megabytes and is located on the top-left portion of the display.

Amazon's new Kindle reader has reading shortcuts as well, which many of its owners may not know about. As you are enjoying your newly downloaded eBook, you can jump to the start of the next chapter by pressing the "Right Arrow" key on the device's directional pad. If you decide to go back to the start of the previous chapter, just press the "Left Arrow" key and you're there. Adding a bookmark is made easy as well by pressing "Alt + B". The bookmark is then placed exactly where the cursor is located on the page.

Want to turn on the "text-to-speech" feature of your Kindle? There is a shortcut for that too. While you are on a particular page, you can press the "Shift" key and the "Sym" key at the same time to turn on the said feature. The text-to-speech will then begin reading in the location where your cursor lies. If you wish to stop the function, simply press the same button combination. If you want to listen to your mp3 files while reading, just press the "Alt" and "Spacebar" buttons, and the mp3 player will start playing your songs.

As a Kindle owner, you now have a better understanding of your electronic book reader, and, for sure, by now you have realized the functionality of this incredible device. The two games that the Kindle is actually hiding is a surprise to a lot of owners as well. Pressing "Shift + Alt + M" will open the Minesweeper game. By pressing "G" while Minesweeper is open will give you access to the "GoMoku" game. This will surely impress your friends and fellow Kindle owners.
